It is the evening of the dead

Ann-Sofie Back's a/w 09 collection is one of my favorite collections of the year. I have never wanted to look like a zombie voodoo dream catcher more.

Heart of Glass

I love the new wave trampy monroe glamour of Blondie. Blondie was the first to commission clothing from Steven Sprouse, he once turned a pair of dancing tights into a one-shoulder micro-mini decorated with safety pins and razor blades.

I'm sorry, Miss Jackson

So in the midst of all the excitement surrounding the death of Michael Jackson, I got to thinking about Janet. Sure Michael was the bigger star - he had the bigger hits, the weirder foibles, and the most controversy, but Janet has had her share (wardrobe malfunctions, mystery illnesses, failed relationships, wild speculation about her weight gain/loss) but somehow manages to hold it together despite also having those strangely cursed Jackson genes...

I always adored the tough, 80's style feminist Janet, all big shoulders, nasty "No my first name ain't baby, it's Janet"; General Janet, leader of Rhythm Nation; and the power dressing independent woman with a vulnerable side, in "I Get Lonely"

But for most of the 1990's Janet's 'style' involved her being more or less topless, most of the time. A shame because she had some beautiful clothes when she got round to wearing them. I love this outfit!

Anyway I don't care what really happened at the Superbowl - I love you Janet x

Lotta Skeletrix

I have long been obsessed by Lotta Skeletrix. She first came to my attention in Dazed in Confused as a model in an amazing all white fashion shoot.

Born in Russia she then moved to London and studied art in Central Saint Martins. She became a fixture on the underground club scene wearing her own creations. Through her DIY pieces which she made for herself and friends to wear out at night she was then was approached to sell her designs in dover street market.

Shes says of her inspiration

'I have always been attracted to the rare, unseen, unheard and subconscious and something that’s basically takes you a while to find out about'

Intially designing menswear she has recently launched a womanswear line which is eaqual measures dark and refined prep.

Miles Aldridge

I have been obsessed with the extravagant & nightmarishly sexy photography of Miles Aldridge for as long as I can remember. so I was ecstatic to hear recently that “Miles Aldridge: Pictures for Photographs” (Editions 7L/Steidl, $125), has just been released and contains Aldridges sketches as well as his beautiful photography.
